Why Alpaca?

Alpacas are native to the high, remote Andean plains of South America. There are an estimated 3 million alpacas worldwide, making it one of the rarest species on Earth. About 95% of the world’s Alpaca population inhabit the Southern regions of Peru.

Alpaca fiber is used to make the world’s most luxurious fabrics. This precious fiber is known as the “winter fiber” due to its light weight and properties that serve as a natural thermostat. Alpaca fiber contains microscopic air pockets that retain body heat in cooler temperatures, and release it in warmer temperatures, making it a light and breathable material to wear directly next to your skin.

Winterfiber’s baby Alpaca products are softer than cashmere due to their low micron count, resulting in a luxuriously soft texture. This unique fiber is also used in high fashion clothing and accessories because of its fineness, durability, hypoallergenic qualities. Alpaca fiber is naturally moisture and odor resistant.
Our alpaca fibers are exclusively woven in Peru. Our efforts to bring the world the finest winter fiber comes with a social responsibility to support local alpaca farmers and communities who collect from these warm and friendly animals.
